Garmin GPS, which is short for
global positioning system, incorporates Bluetooth technology into
many of its products. Garmin was the first company in North
America to make wireless global positioning systems widely
available for general use with their Mobile 10 and Mobile 20 GPS
receivers.
GPS is a system that is based on
satellite navigation. The United States Department of
Defense has a system of 24 satellites that were placed into
orbit, intended originally for military use. The
government then made the satellite system available for civilian
use in the 1980s. The global positioning system works
worldwide, 24 hours a day, regardless of the weather.
The GPS satellites, which circle
the Earth twice a day, transmit signal information as they orbit
the Earth 12,000 miles above us at speeds of approximately 7000
miles an hour. The signals are sent to the Earth and received
by the GPS receivers, such as the Garmin Nuvi, Street Pilot, and
Zumo.
A Garmin GPS Bluetooth receiver,
not only offers the user all of the benefits of a GPS system, but
also pairs up with your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to give you
phone calls that are hands-free.
Your phone calls can be made
through the speaker and microphone that are integrated in
your Garmin global positioning system’s receiver.
Your mobile phone can actually stay in your pocket, purse or
your car’s glovebox.
By allowing you to make
totally hands-free calls, your Garmin GPS Bluetooth system
makes it safer and easier to make calls while you are driving. You
are able to dial, answer and talk through your Garmin
receiver.
Another feature of the garment in
GPS Bluetooth system is the ability to call points of interest that
are incorporated into your Garman receiver, such as restaurants,
hotels and theaters.
You are also able to look up and
automatically dial numbers that are stored in your telephones call
history log or in your mobile phones personalized phonebook
through the Garmin’s address book syncing.
Another product available from
Garmin is the Mobile 10 which is a general-purpose global
positioning system receiver. This receiver can be connected
wirelessly to most laptops Pocket PC handhelds, PCs and
Windows Mobile or Palm smartphones.
Once the Mobile 10 is connected,
it sends the satellite signals to your device in real time, turning
the device into a global positioning system unit. The Garmin Mobile
10 has a battery life of 22 hours and can be carried on a belt clip
for use outside of the car. The mobile 10 can be charged
using its 12 volt charging cable.
The Garmin Mobile 20 GPS receiver
is made solely for use in a vehicle, and can power a Windows Mobile
Smartphone, Symbian, or Palm, while transmitting GPS maps to the
unit.
This unit also offers all of the
same features as the mobile 10. Both units have the ability
to transmit signals using Bluetooth technology, up to 30 feet away
from your device
Garmin, GPS Bluetooth technology
offers the user a safer way to navigate the roads, find your
destinations with ease, and stay connected through your mobile
phone hands free.
