Bluetooth wireless technology now makes it possible to turn
your PDA, laptop, mobile phone, or Palm into a navigation system
that is handheld and fully
functional. When you pair your PDA with a
Bluetooth GPS receiver, you do not need cables,
sleds or a compact flash
slot.
When you are using a Bluetooth GPS receiver paired with a
PDA in a vehicle, the receiver should be placed
in a position that has a clear view of
the sky. However, the PDA can be positioned and mounted on the car
dashboard or window so that you have the best possible screen
visibility. This positioning makes it easy to see and access the
PDAs screen and menu options.
Every
Bluetooth GPS receiver has software that is included with it when
purchased. The software generally includes
United States maps, a points of interest (known as POI) database,
and special features, which usually include
route recalculation. Different models offer
different technology and
features.
Bluetooth GPS receivers are small in size but big on
technology. For example, the G66 touch
GPS, made by Global Top, introduced a Bluetooth GPS receiver that
is very thin, measuring only 1/4 inch, 0.68 grams, thick. This tiny
unit is only 3.09 inches long and 1.96 inches
wide. It can easily be carried in your shirt
pocket comfortably. The G66 Bluetooth GPS, with
its built in antenna, offers 51 channels, and
has a battery life of 20 hours. This tiny unit has three LED
indicators reach, blue to show the Bluetooth connectivity, green
for the GPS satellite lock, and red to show the power/battery
charging status.
Canmore, a manufacture from Taiwan, offers
the GT -750F Bluetooth GPS receiver, which is Bluetooth 2.0
compliant and easily pairs with your smart phone or
PDA. This small unit, measuring only 73x44x21
mm, uses a Venus 520 GPS receiver which enables it to have
a very fast signal acquisition time, as well as
a quick startup time.
The
Freedom company offers a mini key chain
Bluetooth GPS receiver. This receiver can easily
be paired with your notebook, mobile phone, or PDA and comes with
Bluetooth technology that is state-of-the-art. Once you attach the
Freedom Mini GPS to your keychain there is no
need to remove it when it is in use. When you are using it in your
vehicle it can stay attached to your key ring and still give you
accurate navigation. This unit can be carried in
a handbag, briefcase, backpack or pocket, and still work perfectly,
because it maintains a lock that is accurate with the global
positioning system satellites.
The freedom Mini GPS
receiver works with the latest Bluetooth technology, offering
a chipset of SiRF Star III which can connect to 20 satellite
channels simultaneously. This key chain receiver only weighs
1.06 ounces and measures2x1.25x0.75 inches and will not even
be noticed on your keychain. It is easy to charge the unit
either at home or in your
car.
Bluetooth
